BOLD NEW GIRLS – Author, Educator and Girl Champion, Lindsay Sealey is helping young girls become the strong leaders of our future by practicing using their voices today.
Interviewed by Paige, 10 years old.
Today we are so excited to be interviewing author, Lindsay Sealey, of Growing Strong Girls. I’ve read the book and I find it is detailed, interesting, warmhearted and it really pulls the reader in. I interviewed Lindsay and asked her several questions about what I wanted to know most.
PAIGE: What lesson do you want to teach girls and their parents? What do you think would be the most important lesson?
LINDSAY: I think the most important lesson in the book is around making time to connect. I know parents want time so they can talk to their girls and listen to their stories and what’s really going on for them. And I know girls really want time with their parents to tell them their stories.
PAIGE: What intrigued you to write such a caring and detailed book?
LINDSAY: I do care about girls so I think that’s probably why the book feels warmhearted. I wanted to provide parents with enough detail, ideas, and practical tools to better relate to and understand their daughters. I know parents are really busy though so I tried not to give too much detail!
PAIGE: What do you want girls to learn from this book? Do you want them to be powerful in making their own decisions?
LINDSAY: Yes, I want the girls to feel good about themselves. This means feeling strong, courageous, brave, bold, and authentic and believe that they can do anything they choose to do. This is power!
PAIGE: Why did you write this book about girls and not boys? Do you understand girls more or is it just you like them more?
LINDSAY: I wrote the book for girls because girls are the focus of my company, Bold New Girls. So this means I spend a lot of time talking with girls and I think I understand girls quite a bit. For the record, I enjoy both girls and boys.
PAIGE: Why do you want girls to be recognized and stand out? Do you want them to be heard?
LINDSAY: Yes, I absolutely want girls to be heard and stand out. As girls grow up they can sometimes lose their confidence, meaning they stop feeling as though they matter and they can feel small. This is a great time in society where I think girls (and women) are starting to speak up more and become stronger and these girls are going to become the strong leaders of our future. It’s very important that they practice using their voice, starting today.
Thank you, Lindsay Sealey, for your time!!! Lindsay Sealey is the best writer I know and I am almost done this awesome book!!! Please read it; you will not regret it!
