Why October Is the Prime Time for Kids Fall Music Activities
Kids Fall Music Activities are a joyful way to bring learning, movement, and connection into the preschool classroom this October. Fun autumn songs paired with simple teaching resources can help children regulate emotions, release energy, and build strong social bonds.
By this point in the school year, children have settled into routines and begun forming real connections with their teachers and peers. With this sense of safety, their true personalities start to shine through. That often means louder laughter, bolder behaviours, and bigger emotions — a natural sign that children feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
For teachers and parents, this stage is both exciting and challenging. It’s the perfect time to lean on kids fall music activities like songs, scarf play, and movement games. These resources not only bring joy to circle time, they also support emotional growth, active listening, and collaboration.
This post is Part 1 of our October Preschool Resources series, focusing on autumn songs and music curriculum. Stay tuned for Part 2 next week, where we’ll share storytelling tools, preschool books, and other fall classroom resources.
3 Types of Songs That Support Emotional Regulation
Songs are powerful learning tools because they resonate emotionally with young children, offering comfort, excitement, and even humour. In the classroom, a well-chosen song can reset the mood during transitions, release pent-up energy, or bring calm to a busy group.
Here are three types of fall songs for preschool to use in your October preschool activities:
- Songs that are predictable — familiar melodies children already know or can easily follow along to
- Songs that soothe — calming rhythms like scarf songs or melodic instrumentals
- Songs that educate (and entertain) — action songs with gestures and visuals that invite joy

KIDS SONG PICK OF THE MONTH!
The Angry Song by Heather Feather
This fun educational tune teaches children about how to manage their anger and frustration. During the angry parts, children can stomp, and pretend that they are angry. Act it out with facial expressions and stomping and pretending to yell. Then, we “freeze” and STOP! When angry, instead of lashing-out physically or verbally, kids are taught to stop and “freeze”. Pausing is the first step and allows time to think. Kids are asked to count to 5 on their fingers. during that pause. Next, walk away. Find a calm place. In the calm place, take deep breaths in and out. Deep breaths help to regulate big emotions. After taking some deep breaths, kids should think about what can be done, and what can be said, in order to explain how they feel, using their words instead of their bodies.
