We are starting off with a review of the book, Coral’s Reef by kid reviewer, Kristiina.

BOOK REVIEW by Kristiina

WHO:
The main characters are Coral and Nick. Coral is a pro at water surfing. She’s even a surfing instructor, and Nick is just as good at lava surfing. Coral is a sea sprite, and Nick is a fire ifrit.

WHAT:
Coral saves Nick when he tries surfing for the first time. Later, he becomes the new student at her high school. Coral likes Nick but thinks he has a girlfriend. She later finds out the girl is actually his twin sister, Ember. With encouragement from her friends Anemone and Lillyana, Coral finds the courage to talk to Nick and help him prepare for his swim tryouts. After Nick tries out for the swim try outs, Coral is excited about having her first kiss with him. I won’t tell you if he makes the team or not because you need to read the book to find out. That’s when Lance, a boy at the same school who is girl crazy, kisses Coral before Nick can, and without her permission.

WHERE:
The story takes place in the town of Reef Beach.

WHEN:
The story takes place while these characters are in high school.

WHY:
Coral wants to get to know Nick after meeting him because she has a crush on him.

WHAT I LIKED BEST ABOUT THIS BOOK:
I like the characters. Coral is my favourite because she’s really cool. She has magic that nobody knows about except her little sister, Maki, who is very curious and knotty. That’s how she saw her sister’s bathing suit explode in the ocean while she was fighting a sea serpent. I also liked the cliffhanger ending about her Daddy.
