THE TWELVE WiSHES OF CHRiSTMAS

written by Lorrie Holmes December 14, 2018

WiSH NUMBER ONE – UNDERSTANDING

I wish for understanding. Understanding is important to kids because seeing things from different points of view makes us feel grateful for everything we have. As we see the world differently than others, it makes us want to help whoever doesn’t understand the way we see things.

It’s been a lot of fun putting together our CHRiSTMAS CONNECTiONS theme. So far, we were able to get a glimpse inside one of our favourite independent toy stores located in sunny Tsawwassen, British Columbia, Canada. Here store owner, Marlene, shares what Christmas means to her and how, after 25 years serving her community in her store, she loves connecting with her customers at this time of year. She also shares some helpful toy shopping tips with us. We are so excited to be reviewing four of her products over the holidays. Next, our Mom & Daughter bloggers, Marlene and Anika, from In My Daughter’s Eyes, shared a charmingly nostalgic story with us about their recent visit to Burnaby Village Museum where they experienced a magical holiday theme. These two lovely ladies will soon be sharing more CHRiSTMAS CONNECTIONS with us, including the highlight of the season for Anika which was Ballet BC’s production of The Nutcracker.  Potters At Christmastime is another feel good Christmas story. From October to December each year, this busy nursery converts its impressive 28,000 square feet of space into incredible Christmas displays and shopping experiences. We stopped by Potters this year as they so generously gifted to one of our young reviewers, her very own Christmas tree that she had a lot of fun setting up and decorating. This special little tree is now on display in her room to be shared with her loved ones. Still to come, we will be sharing holiday greetings & traditions from some of our favourite local and national child performers. Still to come is a though and heart provoking original Christmas Tale called The Christmas Wolf. This story is written and illustrated by one of our own child writers named Katelyn. It was been a real pleasure mentoring her to complete her first picture book in our Young Writers Publishing Program.

A common theme in all of our Christmas stories is CONNECTION. Both adults and children alike seem to be sharing in a common answer when posed the question of what Christmas means to them. Taking this one step further, twelve children and youth are sharing their wishes for Christmas here. Starting today, these Twelve Wishes Of Christmas will be featured on both our Instagram and Facebook pages, as we count down to Christmas. It’s been such a pleasure working with these young writers on this story as they delved deep to consider what Christmas really means to them, and to their fellow peers.
